Library usage: Belmont is tops in the Commonwealth

Belmont residents want more library services than the current main library can provide, but there is no room to add library material, computers or programs. Our circulation and traffic statistics are among the highest in the Commonwealth for many categories.

Children's and Young Adult figures for 2010

  • Children's Department circulation increased
  • The summer reading program had 780 children participating
  • 7,583 children participated in 217 programs through the year, including over 3000 at story times
  • The YA summer reading program resulted in reviews on 109 books by teens

General usage statistics for 2010

  • Overall circulation was 531,626, keeping Belmont as one of the busiest of town’s in its population group
  • There were 250,000 visits to the library (about 1000 daily)
  • Digital services expanded to include Kindles, Downloadable audio and ebooks, and Playaways
  • New online databases were added such as Tutor.com, LexisNexis, Morningstar Investment Research Center and the Historical Boston Globe just to name a few
